Early in 2007, Dundee-based investment group Alliance Trust approached PSP Publishing Ltd to compile a special hole-by-hole guide to Carnoustie Golf Links, host of the 2007 Open Championship, which would be titled ‘Carnoustie Opened Up’.
After much intensive research, the finished product shared the knowledge of some of Carnoustie’s real experts, its caddies, its golfers and other privileged observers.
The full-colour guide was a huge success and was seen in the hands of thousands of visitors to the Angus links in July when Tiger Woods and friends came to compete in the world’s oldest and greatest ‘Major’ golf championship.
The free-of-charge guide gave readers an insight into the course and to the local area, offering a collection of facts and stories that were unavailable to spectactors anywhere else.

the
Solheim Cup

The Solheim Cup was founded in 1990 by Karsten Solheim, the man behind golf equipment manufacturer PING. The match was founded along the same principles as the Ryder Cup – a three-day matchplay contest where the best American players face the best Europeans.
Since 1990, the contest has grown beyond imagination and the 2007 event, held in Sweden, was another thrilling showcase of the growing power of the ladies’ game.
When the Solheim Cup came to Loch Lomond Golf Club in 2000 it created a huge buzz in the ‘Home of Golf’. PSP Publishing Ltd produced a spectator guide with a rundown on the event, a look at the course and a special biography section for all competig players.
The guide encapsulated everything that was good about the contest which is now the leading team event in women’s professional golf.

Golfing destinations

The lure of the sun, golf friendly hotels and increase in budget airlines has made golf abroad a much more approachable form of holiday golf.
Playing golf abroad used to be a rich man’s sport – but no any more. Bunkered’s ‘Guide to Great Golf Destinations’ has grown beyond all recognition in recent years as more and more overseas holiday hotspots have upped and ante and invited some of the world’s top golf course architects to develop on their land.
Ten years ago countries such as Italy, Germany and even Dubai were not necessarily well-known as holiday gol prospects – yet now they are positively buzzing to the tune of green fees.
The guide is an all-encompassing rundown on the best regions to visit abroad and is designed to cater for all budgets. The glossy A5 full-colour publication has covered places like Mauritius, Dubai, Emilia Romagna, Myrtle Beach and Austria in recent years. No doubt the list will be added to greatly in the coming years as golf abroad continues to operate at such a high level. |
